Jones Remaining Patient With Kicker Buehler

Buehler missed a 44-yard attempt and made a 48-yarder later in the fourth quarter.ARLINGTON, Texas - On Thursday, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said David Buehler's security as a first-year field goal kicker has "a lot of rope," citing his physical potential, mental makeup and productive offseason.

Jones evidently is not losing his patience in Buehler after he missed a fourth-quarter, 44-yard attempt that would've tied the game in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Chicago Bears at Cowboys Stadium. Buehler is now 2-for-4 in two regular-season games; he also missed a 34-yard attempt in last Sunday's loss to Washington.

"Basically, reflecting is not the time to do right after a ball game," Jones said. "Certainly, the last two field goals have been very meaningful that have been missed, but my inclination is to be very patient here."

Asked why, Jones replied, "Because I want to. That's what my instincts tell me."

Buehler's consistent preseason (10-for-11) took a step toward assuaging some fears about his inexperience. Last year as a rookie, he led the NFL in touchbacks (29) as a kickoff specialist but did not practice field goals full-time behind ex-kickers Nick Folk or Shaun Suisham.

The Cowboys would prefer not to carry two kickers on their 45-man game-day roster again, and Buehler has developed under consultant Chris Boniol and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis. Following his miss Sunday, he kicked a 48-yarder that cut the Bears' lead to seven with 1:17 remaining.

"We want him to make them all," head coach Wade Phillips said. "He missed another one, but he also came back and made the one at the end that we had to have. We're kind of in between right now."

For right now, the Cowboys remain supportive of their developing kicker.

This topic is not even needed, a kicker is like the teams lawyer he bails you out when your offense can't score. If the players are calling player only meetings they obviously have bigger problems that need fixing. The cowboys need to address their running game and figure somthing out soon with themselves as a team soon because the Texans will end their season if not

The mistake that jerry the genius made was trying to make a kick off specialist into a good field goal kicker. Hey what about this concept get a good field kicker who maybe can't kick as deep and TEACH YOUR KICK OFF TEAM HOW TO COVER A KICK OFF!

hey bringbacktheflex, are you saying that Cowher or Gruden wouldn't do any better than wade? you gotta be kiddin! Those two have leadership intangibles that wade or the red head will never have. If nothing else they would get in a players drawers of they screwed up and wouldn't say golly geez it was all my fault

The problem with the Cowboys for the last few years is that Jerry Jones needs to get out of the personnel business. He needs to bring in a football mind. As the owner, he sits back and signs the checks, let the GM get the players and let the coaches coach. I don't wnat to hit the panic button but it's time to make some changes. Dallas needs to draft a high caliber QB to groom as Romo's replacement. Then build the OL; draft a replacement for Newman and some inside LBs.

Beuhler will be fine. You can't make him the scapegoat for the OC not getting us in the endzone, or the receivers dropping the ball.

No to Cowher and no to Gruden. Keep Phillips and get a new OC. JG might develop into a good one at some point, but in the meantime we're losing games we should win.

Phillips is a winner, consistently. Cowher isn't any better talent evaluator than Phillips and Gruden has little clue how to put a team together. Why disrupt a winning organization for a what if.

Please Jerry just swallow your pride and accept that you were absolutely wrong about Buehler. Please sell the team so we can win again!

the problem isnt just a kicker , its the whole team and the lack of leadership by romo and wade phillips. Its the stupid penalties, its the lack of disipline. Its also the fact that our owner just cant stay up in his luxury box and hire a gm to build this team and trim the fat so to speak. in that i mean its time to relieve Jason Garrett of his duties, The same Garrett who is in love with the pass.. We need to get back to running the ball down teams throats. And stop giving up after 2 or 3 runs and escape to the pass.. Every year we underacheive with one of the best teams on paper. Well i am for one tired of being paper champs , and would like to celebrate a real championship as a long time fan.. I also am tired of waiting for Wade to win one , I dont think it is going to happen, so lets look for the next coach in either Bill Cohwer or John Gruden. Wade has little room for anymore error and i cant wait to have a real coach for next year. As far as this year is concerned just look at our upcoming schedule, it doesnt bode well for us. Heres to a long year Boys fans.,.

J Jones didn't fire Johnson. Johnson quit. Johnson has NEVER coached any team for more than 5 years - on any level. He even said he was done and that he thought it was time to move on.

He's an idiot.

Lets not make the same mistake twice. We let Folk go because we thought he didn't have it anymore. Without giving him a chance. Lets give Buehler a chance.
