Set smaller goals

"Identify what you're trying to do and then break it down into smaller goals. Write the goals down somewhere and check one off as you complete it as a way of monitoring your creative progress."
Oflow
I have a great example for this one. Every week on Thursdays I get to see what my weekly paycheck is. So when I do see it, I get to see what bills I have to pay for the week. And then break down my paycheck, and my bills. And then when I'm done I get to see what I have left over for the weekend.

Make an analogy

In his book, "The Element," Sir Ken Robinson explains: "Growth comes through analogy, through seeing how things connect rather than only seeing how they might be different."  Oflow

Through this passage of Oflow. Seeing things for there similarities, and not the difference of it. Try also looking at what your trying to do from more than one angle and see what you can come up with. This process may take awhile to get it fully, but yet most of the time its worth it.
